Frequently Asked Questions
How many Fixed LTE Services can I order?
A maximum of three per customer is allowed.
What speeds can I experience on Fixed LTE?
We’ve run rigorous tests on both networks and have found the following:
- Telkom (Capped Package): Enjoy speeds as high as 25Mbps, with an average of 20Mbps.
- Telkom (Uncapped Packages): On the 10Mbps package, you will experience speeds of 10Mbps up until 500GB of usage. On the 20Mbps package you will experience speeds of 20Mbps up until you have used 600GB of data. Once you’ve hit these FUP thresholds, your speed will drop to 2Mbps. Your threshold is automatically refreshed at the beginning of each month.
- MTN (Capped Packages): We’ve seen speeds up to 150Mbps, with an average of around 30Mbps.
- MTN (Uncapped): On the 20Mbps package, you will experience speeds up to 20Mbps up until 400GB of usage. On the 30Mbps package, you will experience speeds up to 30Mbps up until you have used 500GB of data. On the 50Mbps package, you will experience speeds up to 50Mbps up until you have used 600GB of data. With the Uncapped Ultimate package, you will have no speed limits up until 1TB of data usage. Once you’ve hit these FUP thresholds, your speed will drop as low as 1Mbps. Your threshold is automatically refreshed at the beginning of each month.
Speeds depend on various factors (proximity to LTE tower, the location of the router in the home, interference from mother nature etc).
Are the speeds guaranteed
Speeds depend on various factors (proximity to LTE tower, the location of the router in the home, interference from mother nature etc). Due to the nature of the wireless network, the speed you sign up for is the maximum speed you can expect at best effort from the Mobile Network Operator.
Can I use my Fixed LTE service anywhere?
Telkom:
Telkom’s Fixed LTE service works anywhere within Telkom’s coverage area. (Remember, their coverage maps expand weekly so check back at any time to see if your next destination is covered). That said, our Fixed LTE is designed to be a fixed home-based product and it can take up to 24 hours to connect to a new tower if you do move it.
MTN:
MTN’s Fixed LTE service is designed to be used at your home or office. Remember, the SIM card will be locked to the location you provided during sign-up and as a result your Fixed LTE services will ONLY work at this location.
Do I need to RICA my SIM card?
Yes, you need to provide Webafrica with an electronic copy of your ID and proof of address that is less than three months old. Once you have ordered, you will automatically be prompted by email to RICA, the documents can then be uploaded in our Customer Zone.
You will also be required to have a copy of your ID and proof of residence available when your SIM is delivered, and you (the account holder) must sign for it in person.
The documents you present to the courier must match the documents you have provided electronically.
Are any contracts involved?
We don’t do long, drawn-out contracts. If for whatever reason you wish to cancel, all that is required is a calendar month’s notice.

Do I get priority on the LTE towers?
Our coverage maps are updated based on the Fixed LTE network availability and capacity. You shouldn’t be affected by network congestion from mobile data users if we indicate that LTE is available in your area. Additionally, if you choose a package where you receive one of our free-to-use routers, we will configure your router to allow your Mobile Network Operator to allocate spectrum that is not available to mobile data users.
Will my first payment and allocation of data be on a pro-rata basis?
Yes, we apply pro-rata to both the data and cost of our Fixed LTE services. This means that if you sign up halfway through the month you will pay half the monthly fee and receive half the data for the rest of the month.
Your first Invoice amount: Your LTE service (R400/month) activates on 15 August. Since we bill in advance, you will receive a pro-rata invoice for the 16 days this service has been active this month. Your pro-rata invoice will be R206.45 [(R400 / 31 days) X (16 days)]
Your first data allocation: Your LTE service (40GB + 40GB/month) activates on 15 August. Since our packages are monthly, you will receive a pro-rata data allocation for the 16 days this service has been active this month. Your pro-rata data will be 20.64GB + 20.64GB [(40GB / 31 days) X (16 days)]
Can I upgrade or downgrade?
Upgrades are scheduled for the end of the month. You can top up at any time while you wait for your upgrade and your top up will carry over to your new package (if there is any data left) once the upgrade is complete.
Telkom Downgrades:Our Telkom LTE service does not currently support downgrades.
MTN Upgrades:Upgrades are done immediately (within 10 minutes of the request).
MTN Downgrades:Our MTN LTE service downgrades will be done at the end of the month.
How do I view my usage?
By logging into your Customer Zone, you can view your usage, upgrade / downgrade and purchase top up data. We’ll send you a link to your Customer Zone as soon as you’ve ordered.
How long will it take for my Fixed LTE to be delivered?
Once your service has been RICA’d, it could take up to 3-5 business days for delivery.
What happens if I cancel my LTE?
All our LTE packages are month-to-month, so you only need to give one calendar month’s notice when cancelling.
If you have one of our free-to-use premium routers (not purchased), you will be required to return (in its original condition) within 20 days of your service being cancelled.
What the FUP is FUP?
The Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is our super simple way of protecting the integrity of the Webafrica network. As with all acceptable usage policies, if you use more than a certain, predetermined “fair” amount of data (your FUP threshold) in a given time frame, you stand to be restricted to slower speeds during peak times, in order to allow other users to access the network fairly.
On the MTN 20Mbps Uncapped package, you will experience speeds up to 20Mbps up until 400GB of usage.
On the Telkom 10Mbps Uncapped package, you will experience speeds of 10Mbps up until 500GB of usage. On the Telkom 20Mbps Uncapped package you will experience speeds of 20Mbps up until you have used 600GB of data. Once you’ve hit these FUP thresholds, your speed will drop to 2Mbps.
Thresholds are automatically refreshed at the beginning of each month and you will return to your original speed.
How will I know I’m about to get FUP’ed?
You can check your FUP threshold level on your Customer Zone next to your service you’d like to check, on the “My Services” page.
On MTN Uncapped, you can choose to upgrade or continue on FUP’ed speeds. If you remain over your FUP threshold you will receive these notifications every ten days. You may opt out of these notifications in your Internet Usage Tracker if you do not wish to receive them.
To get updated information on a Telkom package, please download the Telkom App from your mobile App store or visit the Telkom webpage and log into your Telkom profile.
I’ve hit my FUP limit, now what?
Once you have hit your FUP limit your speeds will drop to 1Mbps (MTN) or 2Mbps (Telkom). FUP limits will reset again at the beginning of each month. Need a bigger FUP limit? You can always upgrade your service in a few simple clicks. Just head over to your Customer Zone, go to “My Services” > “Internet Access” and then select “Upgrade/Downgrade” next to the service you’d like to upgrade. You’ll then be able to find a package that suits your need for speed better and get back to the Fasterfast lifestyle.

If you cancel your service, you can return it to us in its original condition and packaging or you will be billed for your router and it will become your property.
Do I need to change my APN settings on my MTN Fixed LTE router?
